The Streets of Laredo

DATELINE: LAREDO, TX, 5:02 p.m. CST

Miles Today: 595

Aw, shucks! Not 600+ miles. But it was in only 9.25 hours of driving, with only 1 stop. So it felt like a L-O-N-G drive. I don't think I'm actually IN Laredo proper at the moment, but it's close enough to call it that. I'm at the Flying J on the northern outskirts of town, poised to get up REALLY early to make my delivery here, then proceed south to McAllen, TX for my 2nd delivery of the day. That's all I have on this load, just the 2 deliveries. Then I'll have to ask for my next assignment. Check back tomorrow to find out where that will be taking me.

I'm gonna have to get my truck in the shop. The air conditioner is not cooling my cab down at all, and it's in the 80s here with the sun beating down. (I can feel the sympathy oozing from all you Michiganders.) The heat and the long drives of the last 3 days are sapping my energy, so I'm gonna have to wrap up here and get to sleep.

Thanks again for reading and commenting, and keep on truckin'.

I'll bet you're not seeing much of the streets of Laredo, though. What's the view out your window? Is this desert area? Or suburbs that look like every place else? Take it easy on your early-morning drive.

John,

It was great to see you at M4M on Sunday, and thanks for taking time out of your weekend to be with us for rehearsal. I know that time is very precious, because you get so little time with family these days. Several of the guys read your blog regularly, because when you had that accident with the truckload of Lexus cars several of us were wondering out loud just how the insurance would take care of that.

Keep on truckin/!

Hi to AN. :-)

You're right. No sympathy from here. 80deg sounds just about perfect. Speaking of hot, I heard a story on the way home from the airport (Don S. from R.O.) about you and my dad working for him one summer in college? How does this job compare with that one?

In case any other family members are reading the blog, I'm fine. Back to work etc. It was a scary Friday/Saturday, but everything turned out well. And in case you were wondering, no I'm not expecting.
